About Carolyn

Drawing and painting has been a love of mine from a young age.  I have been inspired by the environment which has surrounded me as a child and an adult: I grew up on a hill farm, studied agriculture and now live on a farm in Morayshire, Scotland with my husband and four boys.

It’s fair to say that farming is in my blood and something I feel passionate about.  The beautiful countryside and its colours, the variety of livestock, the people and the intricacies of farming life which surround me, are all dominant themes in my work.

Over the years I’ve developed my style by attending different courses, including an NC in Art and Design at Moray School of Art which I can highly recommend.  The biggest influence on my technique however has been the renowned Scottish artist Gerard Burns.

I had the good fortune to work with him on a series of his paintings and will always be grateful for his mentorship: his advice, support and way of painting has influenced me technically and contributed to my style.

As my boys are getting older, I’m finding more time to focus on my painting and have started taking on commissions.

Life here is very unpredictable however – what I plan to do in a day isn’t always the outcome so please forgive me if I can’t get back to an enquiry straight away!
